What we’ve actioned

Focusing on safeguarding this extraordinary place for future generations to come, KCAG has been busy delivering solutions for a tidy, safer, better connected community.

  • Quick Reference Guide created specifically for locals’ needs

  • Brand new Lifepak CR2 defibrillator installed at the KR SLSC gear shed for public use

  • The volunteer garbologist Litter Picker Station to combat visitor rubbish and microplastics

  • The Triangle Makeover + Revegetation Project on Hawdon Ave and Grey River Road

  • Monitoring of wildlife welfare and interference, to help inform agencies, for better education within our region

  • Directional and refreshed road line markings

  • Lowering and repositioning of ‘No Entry’ sign to roundabout for further risk mitigation

  • Installation of ashtrays to safely butt out

  • Started a community taskforce to take pride in where we live and holiday, tackling litter, conservation and weed management. Each win celebrated with a cuppa afterwards and a chance to connect with others

  • Funded plants, indigenous to the area, selected by GORCAPA and propagated by SOLN for the Kennett River Riparian Zone Revegetation Project.

  • Collaborated with Wye to Wongarra Landcare Group and GORCAPA for an ongoing Sea Spurge education program

  • Media coverage raising awareness of over tourism and local wildlife welfare issues

  • Stainless steel, bird resistant bins installed throughout Kennett River in July. We advocated for cockie proof bins in all neighbouring communities, so that our problems weren’t pushed on elsewhere

  • Solar compacting Smart Bins installed August 2024

  • Collaborated with Southern Otway Landcare Network on a successful Victorian Coastcare Grant - Beat the Sweet (Pittosporum)

  • Sourced and donated $1,400 worth of prizes to the KR SLSC for their annual raffles

  • Initiated a traffic safety management plan with the Colac Otway Shire in April 2024 for improved safety outcomes within our busy precinct

  • Requested GORCAPA put in counters along the riverbank to start measure and monitoring usage and impacts on the environment - as we look to better understand carry capacity and ecological health within our community

  • Launched Keep The Wildlife Wild education campaign on 7 December 2025

  • Collaborated with Living Culture, Clean Ocean Foundation and Gidja Walker (OAM) to provide a cultural community walk - extending our knowledge of indigenous culture and practices

  • Involvement on the Community Reference Group (CRG) which helped shape the precinct plans for the Geelong City Deal Improvement to Infrastructure Project commencing soon

  • Presented photographic evidence and data from our 'visitor impact' log to GORCAPA’s Executive Team, which led to the engagement of the Conservation Ecology Centre for an independent risk assessment review. The outcomes of that report are currently being explored. Stay tuned
